YOKO TAKIRAI AND PIETRO PELLITTERI

Yoko Takirai and Pietro Pellitteri.
Yoko Takirai was born in Tokyo, Japan, and Pietro Pellitteri in Sicily, Italy. Yoko holds a degree from West Virginia University in the United States (1994, BA in Foreign Languages and Art History). In 1995, Yoko moved to Florence, Italy, where she studied at the Le Arti Orafe school (1997, with diplomas in Goldsmith's Art and Jewellery Design). She later earned a diploma in Project Jewellery Design from the Istituto d'Arte di Firenze. Between 1998 and 2000, Yoko taught Goldsmith's Art at the "Alchimia" school, where she also became an assistant to Giampaolo Babetto in his jewellery course. In 2002, she founded Takirai Design, a contemporary jewellery company. The encounter with Pietro Pellitteri, designer and art director at Pellitteri Design, took place during a jewellery exhibition in 1998, and together they embarked on a research journey creating innovative jewellery. In 2018, Yoko and Pietro opened a gallery workshop in the heart of Florence, where they continue to receive international recognition. Their collections have been exhibited in numerous shows both in Italy and abroad and are part of the permanent collections of several international museums and private collections.

About Yoko and Pietro works
They study and explore in their jewellery the concepts of space and movement. The inspiration behind the work is translated into geometric forms, revealing both lightness and elegance. Their creative spirit is expressed through simple shapes that evolve in their purity. Each finely crafted piece is the result of a dedicated research process, which allows them to capture and convey emotions, filtered through movement. The shapes are simple and clean, with nothing in excess, leaving only the essence of their form. Their artistic challenge is to capture emotions and the elusive essence of time and space, transforming them into something tangible.
