SARI LIIMATTA
Sari Liimatta, 1977, Lappeenranta, Finland. Nature enthusiast and peaceful defender, reporter of sad environmental issues. Graduated with a BA in Stonework and Jewellery Design from the South Carelia Polytechnic with an exchange year abroad studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
Sari on her work:
I don´t believe that I can change anything by making my work. I am a reporter. I am just a reporter. My profession as an artist gives me a place in society, among animals called people. For the sake of other animals.
The expectations, generalizations, beliefs, and symbolism around animal themes. In ancient cultures and in our everyday surroundings. I try to give back their animal powers which the toymakers often try to hide, bring down or deny altogether. I never make them tell only stories about people, without telling their own story at the same time.
