Hannah Gallery presents the second solo show with Tore Svensson in Barcelona. After Covers exhibition in 2020, the Swedish artist is now introducing Covers 2 a group of 36 new brooches, works taking inspiration from Andy Wharol's famous series of silkscreens Flowers.

36 MDF and acrylic paint brooches numbered, stamped and presented esclusively at Hannah Gallery. Four artworks, one from each model, can be seen and purchased in a special display, framed on an acrylic box including its authenticity certificate.





At the exhibition at Hannah Gallery in 2020, Tore Svensson questioned the issue of how close a piece of art can be to another artist's work without becoming plagiarism, a problem that you can sometimes see in jewellery.

In the first exhibition, Covers Tore chose some works from various artists and translated them into brooches. 11 different works of art became 33 brooches. Most of them are made of steel, which is the material he mainly works with. The title of the exhibition they borrowed from the music world, Covers.

Tore explains: The same year Covid 19 started and everything closed down. I could not visit the opening in Barcelona and got stuck in Berlin for one year, neither could I work in my studio in Gothenburg.

I continued with the Cover-Series, but this time I chose only one artist, Andy Warhol and his image Flowers. I sawn the flowers in MDF and painted them with acrylic colors. For the backside, I made a silver circle with the mechanism. The picture from Warhol consists of 4 flowers in different shapes, I made nine variations in different colors of each flower.

When Andy Warhol made his project Flowers in silkscreen in 1964, he did not go out into nature to paint his beautiful flowers from what he observed there, instead, he used a photograph by Patricia Caulfield of hibiscus flowers that was published in an issue of the magazine Modern Photography. In 1966, the hibiscus photographer Caulfield sued Warhol. After using well-known trademarks as subjects for his art without consequence, a simple bunch of flowers opened a lawsuit.

Warhol and Caulfield settled out of court and it is said that his experiences with Caulfield led Warhol to only use his own photographs in the future.

When I made my Flower brooches, my approach was more of an interpretation of it and a tribute to another artist's artworks, than a simple copy, a Cover.

Hannah Gallery presenta la segona exposició individual de Tore Svensson a Barcelona. Després de l'exposició Covers el 2020, l'artista suec presenta ara Covers 2, un conjunt de 36 nous fermalls, obres inspirades en la famosa sèrie de serigrafies Flowers d'Andy Warhol.

36 fermalls de MDF i pintura acrílica, numerats, signats i presentats exclusivament a Hannah Gallery. Quatre d'aquestes obres, una de cada model, es poden veure i comprar en una presentació especial, emmarcades en una caixa d'acrílic transparent que inclou el certificat d'autenticitat.

A l'exposició de Hannah Gallery el 2020, Tore Svensson va qüestionar com de propera pot ser una obra d'art a la d'un altre artista sense convertir-se en plagi, un problema que de vegades es pot veure en la joieria.

En la primera exposició, Covers, Tore va triar algunes obres de diversos artistes i les va traduir en fermalls. 11 obres d'art diferents es van convertir en 33 fermalls. La majoria estan fets d'acer, que és el material amb ell que treballa principalment. El títol de l'exposició l'ha agafat del món de la música, Covers.

Tore explica: El mateix any que va començar la Covid-19 i tot es va tancar. No vaig poder visitar la inauguració a Barcelona i em vaig quedar atrapat a Berlín durant un any, tampoc vaig poder treballar al meu estudi a Göteborg.

Vaig continuar amb la sèrie Covers, però aquesta vegada només vaig triar un artista, Andy Warhol, i la seva imatge Flowers. Vaig serrar les flors en MDF i les vaig pintar amb colors acrílics. Per a la part posterior, vaig fer un cercle de plata amb el mecanisme. La imatge de Warhol consisteix en 4 flors de formes diferents, jo vaig fer nou variacions en diferents colors de cada flor.

Quan Andy Warhol va fer el seu projecte Flowers en serigrafia el 1964, no va sortir a la natura a pintar les seves belles flors a partir de l'observació, sinó que va utilitzar una fotografia de Patricia Caulfield de flors d'hibisc que es va publicar en un número de la revista Modern Photography. El 1966, la fotògrafa d'hibisc Caulfield va demandar Warhol. Després d'utilitzar marques comercials conegudes com a temes per a la seva art sense conseqüències, un simple ram de flors va obrir una demanda judicial. Warhol i Caulfield van arribar a un acord extrajudicial i es diu que les seves experiències amb Caulfield van portar a Warhol a utilitzar només les seves pròpies fotografies en el futur.

Quan vaig fer les meves agulles de pit Flower, el meu enfocament va ser més una interpretació i un tribut a les obres d'art d'un altre artista, que no pas una simple còpia, un Cover.
